Privacy notice

When you open a note, OTTNOTE creates a record on our servers with the text content, formatting choice, optional password hash, and timestamps. We do this so we can show the same note back to you and to anyone you share a link with.

OTTNOTE notes are public by URL. Anyone with the link to a note can read and edit it unless password protection is enabled. Treat note URLs like shared documents.

If you enable password protection, the password is salted and hashed before storage. We never store the plaintext password. Anyone visiting the note URL must enter the password before they can read or edit the content.

While OTTNOTE is in beta, please do not store highly sensitive information (passwords, secrets, identifiers, financial data, health data). Treat the service as best-effort and back up anything you can't lose.
